How it works

The tip is the bill multiplied by the tip percentage, and the total is the bill plus that tip. Dividing the total by the number of people gives each share. Rounding up per person makes each share a whole number (so the total collected is a little higher), while rounding the total keeps the grand total round.

What tip percentage is normal?
It varies by country and service. In the US, 15 to 20 percent is common; elsewhere tipping may be lower or already included. Adjust to local custom.
Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?
Either is acceptable; many people tip on the pre-tax amount. Enter whichever bill figure you prefer to tip on.
What if the bill does not divide evenly?
