Enter your height and weight to get your Body Mass Index (BMI), the WHO weight category it falls into, and the healthy weight range for your height. Works in metric or imperial units. This is a general estimate, not medical advice, and runs entirely in your browser.

How to use

  1. Choose metric (cm, kg) or imperial (in, lb) units.
  2. Enter your height and weight.
  3. Read your BMI, its category and your healthy weight range.

How it works

BMI is your weight in kilograms divided by the square of your height in meters (kg/m2). The World Health Organization groups the result into ranges: under 18.5 is underweight, 18.5 to 24.9 is normal, 25 to 29.9 is overweight, and 30 or more is obese. The healthy weight range is simply the weights that give a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 for your height.

FAQ

What is BMI?
Body Mass Index is a simple ratio of weight to height (kg/m2) used to categorize weight into ranges. It is a quick screening tool, not a direct measure of body fat.
What is a normal BMI range?
By WHO standards, a BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 is considered normal weight. Below that is underweight, 25 to 29.9 is overweight, and 30 or above is obese.
Why might a muscular person read high?
BMI counts all body mass, so muscle adds to it. Very muscular people can have a high BMI while having low body fat, which is a known limitation.
Can I use it for children?
Not directly. Children and teenagers use age- and sex-specific BMI percentiles, so consult a pediatric chart or doctor instead.
Is my data sent to a server?
No. The calculation happens entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
